Damilano Lecinquevigne Barolo 2020

The Barolo Deal of a Lifetime: 2020 Damilano Lecinquevigne

Damilano is one of the oldest wineries in the Piemonte, and their Lecinquevigne Barolo is always a ton of wine for the money. "Lecinquevigne" refers to the five vineyards that make up the components of this wine -- Brunate, Liste, Cerequio, Cannubi and Raviole. Trust me, that's some really good "material."

In the hot and dry 2020 vintage, one that saw Nebbiolo get a bit riper and softer, this wine turned out wonderfully, snagging a 94-point rating from Wine Spectator. Totally enjoyable now, but capable of aging and improving for 10 to 15 years, once you buy it, it's totally your call!

Founded in 1890 by Giuseppe Borgogno, Damilano has established itself as one of the great producers of estate-bottled Barolo. Today, the winery is run with passion and vigor by Giuseppe's grand-kids, and the wines are better than ever.

The winery benefits greatly from their large holdings in some of the best crus of Barolo. On what is perhaps the most historically important sites of all, the hill of Cannubi, Damilano owns one of the largest sections in the core of the hill. This is one of the top spots in the world to grow Nebbiolo, and that quality of site combined with 3 generations of experience all add up to a gorgeous bottle of wine.

"Stitched with pure cherry and raspberry fruit, this red is supple and fragrant, showing lovely harmony. Mineral, tar and eucalyptus accents add detail. There’s plenty of structure, with vibrant acidity and refined tannins focusing the finish. Elegant, with the potential to develop over the next two decades." - Wine Spectator

I tend to agree with those tasting notes, as this is definitely a more ready-to-drink Barolo that will excel at the dinner table with grilled meats. It will also reward those who are patient. Once you buy it, you can figure out what you want to do with it : )

My advice, buy at least 3 bottles, and drink one now, drink another in 5 years, and drink the last one in 2035!
