SOLD OUT -- You all have been asking when and if we're going to do one of our curated six-packs, and I'm pleased to say YES! Our all new Super Spring Six-Packs take the guesswork out of buying perfect wines for all of your spring activities.
It's Josh here, and all I've got to say is that this is honestly a stupid-good deal. We put a lot of thought into these selections, and as you read the descriptions below, your mouth should start watering :) In addition to telling you about the producer and the flavor profile, I've also provided some top food pairings for each wine.
1. 2021 Vincent Careme 'Spring' Vouvray Sec (Loire Valley, France) – Born and bred in Vouvray, Vincent Careme knows a thing or two about Chenin Blanc grown in the chalky soils of this famed AOC. He and his wife Tania gained organic certification a few years back, and their Spring Vouvray is delightful. Offering up notes of ripe citrus, golden apple, white flowers, and mineral, this is best enjoyed with light and flaky fish in a beurre blanc sauce. Think Dover sole or Sunburst trout.
2. 2023 Pine Ridge Vineyards Chenin Blanc/Viognier (Various Regions, California) – While this Napa-based producer gets a lot of praise for their Napa Cabs, their blended white is absolutely scrumptious. 80% Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg and 20% Viognier from Lodi, this is crisp, bright, and vivacious. Fermented in stainless steel and possessing just 12% ABV, it displays notes of pear, tangerine, mango, and white flowers. Bright and aromatic whites like this are perfect for "porch sipping" and for pairing with spicy Asian cuisine.
3. 2022 Andre Bonhomme Macon-Village Vieilles Vignes (Burgundy, France) – Bonhomme is the stuff of legends in Southern Burgundy. One of the first family-run wineries to estate bottle their own wines as well as one of the first to gain organic certification. Their Macon Blanc is the finest of its type we sell -- exotic, rich, and energetic if exhibits wonderful aromas and flavors of pineapple, apricot, spiced apple, honeysuckle, and chalk. The richness and flamboyance of this one begs for king crab, lobster, or scallops. You can also keep it simple with an Ingle's rotisserie chicken, some roasted potatoes, and a green salad.
4. 2022 Pierre-Marie Chermette 'Cuvee Origine' Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes (Beaujolais, France) – The Chermette family are synonymous with greatness in the Beaujolais region, and I always find this wine drinks like a really good, village-level Red Burgundy....at a great price. From a certified organic patch of 35-100 year-old Gamay in the northern-most part of the appellation, this is deep and sappy yet silky and fresh. A nice mix of red and dark fruit, spices, and earthy mineral inform the nose and palate of this heftier-weighted Beaujolais. The fine texture of this wine makes it a great one to enjoy with salmon, pork tenderloin, or poultry. I personally love it with a nice charcuterie board!
5. 2021 Buondonno Rosso Toscana (Tuscany, Italy) – Gabriele Buondonno's wines are brand new to the US, and I hate/love to say they're catching on :) Yep, sommeliers and wine lovers nationwide are realizing that their wines overdeliver in a HUGE way. Their Rosso Toscana is 100% organic and old vine Sangiovese from Castellina, in the southwestern corner of Chianti Classico. Quite stoic and structured, this drinks with the style of a Brunello, with a wonderfully classic nose of dark cherry, plum, leather, violet, and spice leading into a hearty, robust, and powerful palate. Trust me, this wants BIG foods -- think thick-cut steaks, bold red-sauced dishes, or just pick up a meaty pizza and call me in the morning ;)
6. 2021 Ancient Peaks Zinfandel (Paso Robles, California) – This family-owned winery is putting out some of the best values in California, and I count their Zin as one of them. Ancient Peaks owns the entire Margarita Vineyard, and their clean farming and winemaking are well documented. Wine Enthusiast rated this one 93 points, calling it "a very successful Zinfandel, blending earth, spice and fruit into a savory, yet thirst-quenching package." Yep, that sums it up, and this one absolutely loves pulled pork, ribs, and all sorts of BBQ. Enjoy!
