1. Durante 'Pet Nat' Bianco Frizzante (Veneto, Italy) - From a tiny, certified organic estate basically run by a father and son, this slightly sparkling wine drinks like a top-flight Prosecco with a little less fizz. A blend of Glera, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay fermented dry, this offers up pretty notes of pear, apple, lemon, and white flowers. Enjoy this one while you're cooking, with sushi, or while you're watching your favorite team.
2. Domaine Salal et Renaud La Galinette Blanc (Rhone Valley, France) - Crafted by a pair of young, ambitious, and intentional vignerons, this blend of equal parts Vermentino and Roussanne is delightful. From organic and biodynamic vineyards, this fresh, elegant, and aromatic white offers up exotic notes of white peach, honeysuckle, jasmine, and green herb. A prime candidate to enjoy with your favorite spicy Asian cuisine, it also makes for a perfect aperitif.
3. La Colline aux Fossiles Chardonnay (Roussillon, France) - One of the best-selling wines in the store, this is a joint venture between vigneron Jean-Marc Lafage and importer Eric Solomon. 100% Chardonnay from an old, fossil-strewn sight just a mile inland, this unoaked Chardonnay displays pure and concentrated Chardonnay flavors of caramelized citrus, golden apple, peach, and white flowers. Great with roast chicken, salmon, and scallops, this also tastes great with no food at all.
4. Renzo Castella Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba (Piemonte, Italy) - Renzo Castella takes great pride in his Dolcetto, a wine that is an after-thought for a lot of Piemonte producers. His vineyards are certified organic and located in Diano d'Alba, one of the only DOCG's for the grape, and it is a wine that many sommeliers are talking about. I get it, it's really good! Possessing notes of red and dark berries, pink peppercorn, and violet, it is Italy's answer to Cru Beaujolais. Enjoy with poultry, pork, or a charcuterie board.
5. Borgo Moncalvo Barbera d'Asti Superiore (Piemonte, Italy) - This is a red wine I will never get tired of! From a tiny, certified organic, family-run estate, this is produced from 70-80 year-old vines grown on steep hillsides. It is a majestic rendition of Barbera with loads of ripe plum, crushed flowers, spice, and silky tannin. Full-bodied and luscious yet super smooth, this wine is made even better when served with pizza or red-sauced pasta dishes.
6. Marietta Old Vine Lot #73 (Various Regions, California) - For over 40 years, this has been one of California's great red wine values, and the current release is one of the best the Bilbro family have ever produced. Rated 95 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, this Zinfandel-led blend is rich, ripe, and hearty with big aromas and flavors of brambly berries, cracked pepper, anise, and exotic spice. A delightful "cocktail red," this one loves burgers, bbq, and chili too.
