"Super Valpolicella" From the Tezza Family: 2018 Tezza Campo di Majoli

"Super Valpolicella" From the Tezza Family: 2018 Tezza Campo di Majoli

Here's a wine I predict will become a new customer favorite in no time. The Tezza family have bolstered a basic Valpolicella with the addition of a healthy dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. The finished wine is what I like to call a "Super Valpolicella," kind of like a Super Tuscan.

This one offers up a perfect balance of Old and New World style and flavor. There is a lot going on here folks, and this is a red that please a lot of palates. Even better, it's less than $15!

Tezza's Campo di Majoli will appeal to both European and American wine lovers. This unique and original blend of Corvina, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Oseleta is equal parts modern and traditional in style. Most importantly, it's super tasty and it's actually quite complex for a wine in this price range.

The Tezza Family are third generation growers and producers of classic Veneto wines. In addition to being certified organic, every grape that goes into a bottle of Tezza wine comes from their own estate vineyards. Quality control from vineyard to bottle, that's what you get in this wine and all Tezza Family wines.

A blend of 50% Corvina, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Oseleta, this one is fermented entirely in stainless steel and concrete vats. For a wine that sees zero oak, it offers up great richness and a supple texture. There's just so much to like about this wine.

Whether you like "bigger" wines like Cabernet Sauvignon or more elegant wines like "basic" Valpolicella, you're going to love this one. It offers up forward notes of dark cherry and blackberry followed by more complex and savory notes of dried flowers, pink peppercorn, and assorted exotic spices. Firm yet generous on the palate, this will be great with or without food.

With cooler autumnal air blowing into the WNC, this is the extreme value wine you want to be sipping on by the fireplace. It would also be great with a big bowl of beef stew or chili. I bought my distributor's last 12 cases of the 2018 (a great vintage) -- once those 144 bottles are gone, we move to a new vintage and a higher price.
