Super Sancerre Deal: 2019 Pierre Morin Sancerre Vieilles Vignes

Super Sancerre Deal: 2019 Pierre Morin Sancerre Vieilles Vignes

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Sancerre prices are going up. Supply is not meeting demand, and it is just simple economics. I've got great news for you though. I'm offering up the splendid 2019 Pierre Morin Sancerre at less than $28 and as low as $24.99 per bottle!

Pierre Morin has crafted a stunner of a Sancerre in the hot and sunny 2019 vintage. Many producers' wines ended up a bit fat and clunky, but because Morin crafts this wine from two different terroirs and because he harvested his grapes at just the right moment, his wine came out beautifully. I've got 60 bottles available, and that is it for the vintage. Act fast!

Pierre Morin is about as traditional as they come when it comes to being a vigneron. He firmly believes that great wine can only be made when yields are kept low and grapes are harvested by hand. The low yield part of that equation leads to more concentrated and complex wines while the hand harvesting and sorting ensures that only healthy and ripe grapes make it into the fermentation vat. I'm already beginning to like this guy!

In addition, Pierre practices organic viticulture and works with 40 to 50 year old Sauvignon Blanc vinesGrapes come from two communes, and those from Bue contribute the minerality that limestone soils are responsible for. Combine that with grapes from Sancerre, which tend to be riper and more concentrated due to their clay soils, and the result is everything I look for in Sancerre and more.

This is full-bodied, dense, and rich for a Sancerre, but don't worry, there's plenty of classic Sauvignon Blanc acidity to keep everything fresh. Ripe citrus, pear, apple, candied lemon peel, and complex mineral show up on the nose and palate of this lively and complex white wine. There's just so much to like here, and although this one is thought provoking, it is also downright easy to drink.

Drink this gorgeous white with cream sauced seafood dishes or sip to your heart's content, nicely chilled, on a hot summer day. With just 60 bottles available, this one will not be around for long.
