Campo Hermoso Tinto is a fresh and lively red wine that is based primarily on Spain's native Mencia grape. I love it for its honest and juicy personality, and I think it's a great and low-cost alternative to Pinot Noir.
Put together by an importer friend of mine, this includes fruit from some very high-quality growers and producers scattered throughout Bierzo, in NW Spain. We're talking organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking at a ridiculously low price.
If you love light to medium-bodied, low tannin, and silky smooth reds like Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Barbera, you need 6 bottles of this in your wine rack. It is not meant for deep contemplation or discovery, it is meant for casual and joyful drinking!
Campo Hermoso Tinto -- Why should you buy it?
- I love "clean farming" when it leads to delicious wines, but I find that's not always the case. Trust me, that's exactly what you get here. All of the grapes come from sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farms, and it's delicious!
- Flowing with pure and generous aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, delicate floral, and spice notes, this is both easy-drinking and interesting.
- Almost all Mencia, with smaller bits of Tempranillo, Caino Tinto, and Alicante Bouschet, this is fermented entirely in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity.
Ever been to Spain and had a delicious wine that cost 3 Euros? This is a lot like that, and it makes for a wonderful aperitif, but it also pairs great with lighter fare.
