2016 Empordalia Sinols Negre
Priorat-Like Flavors and Style For Less Than $15!
SOLD OUT
If you’re into wine, you know that Spain is home to some of the world’s greatest wine values. This is one of them! Hailing from Spain’s Emporda region, way up in the northeastern corner of the country, the Mediterranean sunshine certainly contributes to the “yum-factor” of this wine. All three of the grapes in this blend thrive in warm and sunny conditions, ripening fully and expressing their full glory.
And glorious is what this wine is! Just like in Priorat, the Garnacha and Carignan are grown in slate soils on steep slopes. This contributes the power and intense mineral expression in this one. And the addition of Merlot, grown in alluvial soils, adds ripeness and opulence. The net result is a wine that is easy drinking, but it’s also serious and contemplative.
Fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, this one pours a gorgeous bright red color with purplish tones. The nose is very Mediterranean, with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry, herbs, anise, and pepper. And the palate is full, rich, and fine-grained, with flavors of ripe berries, licorice, and cracked black pepper. Sounds a bit like Priorat huh? Yep, and it tastes like it too!
It all adds up folks. The Empordalia Sinols Negre is a great warm weather red that will work with just about anything off the grill. Stop by the store and pick some up and/or stop by this Friday, June 8th (4-7pm) and give it a try. Until then, cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville.
