I've been following things at Far Mountain over the past few years, and I think they're about to blast off. Founded by industry veterans Mai Errazuriz and her husband Rodrigo Soto, they firmly believe that the best wines in the world can be produced from remote sites scattered throughout the mountains of the Sonoma Valley.
I remember tasting their 2019 Fission Cabernet Sauvignon, the debut release I believe, and I was deeply impressed. We bought and sold a goodly amount, but by the time it caught on, our distributor was sold out. Two years later and produced from another A+ Napa Cab vintage, the Far Mountain Fission Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine I could see costing $100+ in the next 2-3 years.
Luckily, that's not the case now, and I bought all of my distributor's inventory on this one.

2021 Far Mountain 'Fission' Cabernet Sauvignon
"Ample and deep, the 2021 possesses tons of complexity from the very first taste." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
95 points James Suckling, 94 points Vinous Media, 94 points Decanter
This is a wine on the rise folks. The 2021 has garnered consistently positive praise from a number of trusted publications -- 94 Vinous, 94 Decanter, 93 Dunnuck, and 95 Suckling. It's very deserving of those marks, and I love this wine's old school, more balanced, and restrained style.
Coming entirely from the old, dry-farmed, certified organic Alta Vista Vineyard in the Moon Mountain District, this heritage site provides us with some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in our country. Planted in 1971, this cool and rugged site gives us small and thick- skinned Cabernet berries that are just bursting with flavor.
In the dreamy 2021 vintage, things worked out very well here, and this old-school Cab is overflowing with character and charm. At first a bit restrained, with bay leaf, earth, spice, and dried herb notes, the fruit really comes into play after about 30 minutes in the glass. It really shapes up into something special, showcasing energetic, juicy, and fresh flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant. This is great now, but it's going to drink well through 2040!
