Minkowitsch Gruner Veltliner 2020

Should Cost Twice the Price: 2022 Minkowitsch Gruner Veltliner

It's another stellar vintage of Minkowitsch's epic and consistently fantastic Gruner Veltliner. A wine that easily competes with Smaragd-level Gruners from the Wachau, it's a crazy-good value in world-class Austrian white wine.

It combines rich and full flavors with refreshing acidity to create a wine with incredible balance, detail, and length. Vintage 2022 was very hot in Austria, and the new vintage is a bit riper and more extroverted than last year's version.

Be warned, Roland and Blandine Minkowitsch's wines are starting to "get noticed" by others. I was only able to secure 84 bottles this vintage. They'll be gone in no time...

If you love dry and zesty whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Albarino and you're not drinking Austrian Gruner Veltliner yet, this is a great place to start. Husband and wife Martin and Blandine Minkowitsch represent the ideal "Table Wine producer." Family-owned, small production, traditional to the core, and delicious wines.

It's wines like this one that make my job easy. Sure, I could write all day about this wine, as there's a lot of cool stuff to say, but I'm not going to. The proof is in the bottle, and this wine already has many, many fans. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it sold out in a day.

In case you forgot, here's a little recap. The Minkowitsch family farm is located in Mannersdorf, 30 miles south of Vienna on the Slovakian border. The couple still use a 200 year-old wooden press to crush their grapes. Why? Because Martin knows every nook and cranny of that press, and he knows exactly how to use it to get the most out of his grapes.

These are wines that really don't need to be exported. When I met with Martin and Blandine and their importer Jay Murrie last year, they said the only reason they decided to export is because they loved Jay. I get it, he's a pretty likable dude, but it's his passion, much like mine and the duo who craft this wine, that most likely convinced them to share a "bit" of their wine with us Americans :)

Produced from 40-50 year-old, organically farmed vines, this is wonderfully aromatic, concentrated, and laced with aromas and flavors of pear, green apple, citrus zest, white pepper, ginger, and mineral. With wonderful intensity and length on the palate, this is a world-class wine at a very moderate price point.

84 bottles up for grabs, that's it for the vintage, I'd hit the "ORDER NOW" button below quickly if you want to secure some for yourself :)
