I've been a longtime fan of the wines of Muga, one of the top addresses in Rioja. We sold a ton of the last vintage of this wine, and it was splendid. I think the '21 is even better!
A wine that could easily go toe-to-toe with many Reserva Riojas, it was Luis Gutierrez of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate who described the 2019 as "delicious and still quite complex." The '21 is another highly successful effort from this well-heeled estate.
2021 Bodegas Muga Rioja Crianza El Anden de la Estacion: Here's why you should buy it:
- I'd personally rate this 94 points. Everything Muga makes is delicious, and this is a wonderful introduction to the "house style" of their reds.
- This is what great Rioja is supposed to taste like. It's silky, it's complex, and it's incredibly satisfying. I challenge you not to like it :)
- It offers up gorgeous notes of ripe cherry, earth, vanilla, Asian spices, and violet. Medium-bodied, fine-grained, and long on the finish, it's hard to find anything negative to say about this one.
