In my constant quest to bring you incredible wines at all price points, I present you with one of the top Sangiovese values I've ever encountered. The 2020 Poderi dal Nespoli 'Fico Grande' Sangiovese is about as good as red wine gets for less than $12.

I love the wines from Emilia-Romagna's Poderi del Nespoli, as this 4th generation, family-run estate produces some of Italy's greatest values, red and white. This is the same winery that makes the beloved Famoso (on sale too!), Pagadebit, and Prugneto wines that we all love. Their Fico Grande is new to the store, and if you like Sangiovese, you need some of this wine in your life.
This such a friendly and inviting red wine. It tastes of fresh cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, with a hint of violet in the background. It glides across the palate with medium-bodied freshness and pizzazz, and the tannin is incredibly fine-grained here. What it lacks in tannin, it makes up for in zesty acidity which keeps you coming back for sip after sip.
It's certainly not the most complex wine in the store, but it might be the easiest-to-drink. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, this is just pure Sangiovese that drinks well above its humble price point. If pizza or red sauced pasta dishes are on the menu anytime soon, stock up on this one, as it will make those dishes taste even better. This would also be ideal as your new "house red."
