Joey Tensley knows the ups, downs, and all-arounds of Santa Barbara Syrah, and his latest release is pure, ripe, and pleasure-bent.
A wine that has garnered high marks in the wonderful 2021 vintage, Tensley's 2021 Santa Barbara County Syrah is lush and sensuous. In my humble opinion, it is the best Syrah value produced in our country. You're gonna' love it, I guarantee it!

If I were teaching a class on this classic varietal, this is the one I would present as a perfect example of domestic Syrah. It's big, it's rich, it's packed with flavor, and it's totally ready to drink....like tonight! Loaded with classic varietal notes of blueberry, blackberry, violet, and pepper, it finishes with hints of dark chocolate and bacon. YUM!
For over 20 years, Joey Tensley has dedicated himself to the production of world-class Syrah from top sites scattered throughout Santa Barbara County. Tensley Wines started as a side project for Joey in 1998. At the time, he was head winemaker at Beckmen Vineyards, but he wanted to focus his attentions on site-specific Syrahs from the various terroirs of Santa Barbara County. Shortly thereafter, two of Joey's wines were in the top 10 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list.
Today, Tensley is recognized as one of the premiere Syrah producers in the world. His 2021 Santa Barbara Syrah is produced from a smattering of top Syrah vineyards throughout the county. These different vineyards come together to produce a wine that is velvety and structured, and that pedigree of site is abundantly obvious here.
I could go on and on, but I'm not going to. This is one of those wines that words don't do justice. Take a look online, and you'll quickly see lots of praise from a number of critics.
