Domaine Amido has produced one of my favorite sub-$20 bottles of Cotes du Rhone, and it's a wine that is going to bring a lot of joy to a lot of Table Wine customers.
In case you hadn't heard, Vintage 2019 was a great year for the vignerons of France's Southern Rhone. The year produced ripe, powerful, and concentrated wines, and all of those virtues are on full display in this wonderful wine. If you love Grenache-driven Southern Rhones, all I can say is BACK UP THE TRUCK!

This is going to sound crazy, but this value-priced Cotes du Rhone eerily reminds me of Gigondas. More specifically, it reminds me of the Domaine du Grand Montmirail Gigondas, which is actually brought it in by the same importer. It has that same flair, heady richness, and plush and rounded texture, but it costs half the price. I just call it like I taste it folks, and this is one fantastic bottle of wine.
Signargues is located in the far southern reaches of Rhone Valley, primely located between Avignon and Nimes. Just 30 miles from the Mediterranean, this village was "upgraded" to Cotes du Rhone Villages status in 2005. The warm and sunny conditions present here are ideal for Grenache and the ensuing wines are full-bodied, rich, and pleasure-bent. That is certainly what's in the bottle here.
A classic blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre fermented and aged in concrete vats, this wine personifies why the Southern Rhone is home to some of the top red wine values in the world. It pours a deep ruby color and smells of baked cherries (red and black), kirsch, plum, Provencal herbs, and white pepper. Equally impressive on the palate, this one is full, plush, and seamless, with ripe tannin and mellow acidity.
Whether you're looking for a fuller and bolder red to serve with Thanksgiving dinner or just an affordable red for everyday drinking, this is it. Trust me, if you have liked my other Cotes du Rhone picks of the past, you're going to love this one.
