This is what I want White Cotes du Rhones to taste like. I honestly want every White Chateauneuf to taste at least like this, but that's often not the case. This is a Southern Rhone white in all of its glory -- rich, golden, ripe, textured.
Just so you know what we're talking about here, this isn't Sancerre or Chablis. As much as I love those 2 classic French whites, they are more mineral- and acid-driven wines. Bouscatiere's Cotes du Rhone Blanc is all about luscious and soft fruit supported by spice and floral nuances. It's certainly dry, but it's a more rounded and decadent style of white wine.
80% Viognier and 20% Roussane from vineyards in and around Gigondas, this is hard not to like. Offering up full and overt aromas and flavors of honeyed peach, apricot, white flowers, and spice, I'd happily put this in a blind tasting against White Chateauneufs and/or Condrieus. It might not win, but I guarantee you it would finish in the Top 3.
