Barbanera is a larger-scaled, Italian producer, but man, their wines are delicious. Rich, round, juicy, and easy-to-understand, this is another winner from this Tuscan-based winery. Some of you are surely familiar with their Ser Passo, Barbanera’s sumptuous, Sangiovese-based red.
Guess what? Their Nero di Troia offers up similar ripe and generous flavors at the same price point. Whether you need a casual, house-styled red or one that works with all sorts of dishes, this is your wine!

Hailing from Puglia, in the heel of Italy’s boot, Nero di Troia is one of the most important red grapes of the region. It can often yield deeply colored, fully flavored, highly tannic reds. This one delivers on 2 of those 3 traits — it is deeply pigmented and packed with flavor, but the tannin is ripe, round and soft. Translated, the wine is silky smooth, rounded, and soft. And it’s not just a fruit bomb either! There’s some moderate complexity here.
100% Nero di Troia, the wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks. Offering up a distinct nose of violets and blackberry/blueberry fruits accompanied by spicy and balsamic notes, the wine is smooth and full-bodied on the palate with complex and velvety tannins. Ideal for roasted or grilled red meats, game, and aged cheeses, it’s equally at home with nothing more than a glass and a good friend!
