I drink a lot of Red Burgundy. To my palate, this is one of the top 2 or 3 values I've ever poured into my glass. From vineyards just north of Gevrey-Chambertin, this could easily pass for a wine that runs $50 or more.
There is something incredibly satisfying about this rich, silky, and flavor-packed Pinot Noir. I should know....I've had at least 4 bottles in the past couple of months. Vintage 2019 produced grand and generous Red Burgundies, and that is on full display here.

If I didn't stress it enough earlier, I LOVE THIS WINE. Red Burgundy is my favorite, and this one really drinks above its more-than-fair price point. It offers up lovely purity of ripe fruit along with plump and silky texture usually reserved for Red Burgs that cost a lot more.
Domaine du Vieux College is very capably run by Eric Guyard, who takes great pride in this wine. Although labeled as a "basic" Bourgogne Rouge, it is so much more than that. The single vineyard Les Champs Foreys sits just outside of Marsannay and just north of Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin. We're talking hallowed ground here folks, and this wine drinks like a wine from one of those fabled villages but costs a fraction of the price.
Produced from 30+ year old vines and aged in older oak barrels for 12 months prior to bottling, this pours the color of, smells like, and tastes like Gevrey-Chambertin in a lot of ways. Deeply colored for a "basic Bourgogne," this one explodes out of the glass with ripe and generous aromas of dark cherry liqueur, raspberry, spiced plum, and violet.
Voluminous and harmonious from start to finish, this is plush, supple, and completely ready to drink....like tonight! Yet, the deepness and richness here suggests that this one will offer gratification over the next 5+ years. Big enough to work well with beef and lamb yet soft enough to enjoy with poultry and pork, it's also mighty tasty with no food at all.
