What a pure, delicate, and delightful expression of Pinot Noir from the Savoie region of Eastern France. These Alpine-influenced vineyards yield a uniquely delicious example of the grape that I find quite attractive.
So did Wine Spectator, who recently rated this sub-$20 Pinot Noir at 90 points. It's certainly worthy of that praise, and it will appeal to those whose tastes lean towards Burgundy, Beaujolais, and Loire Valley Cab Franc. Trust me, the 7 cases we were able to secure will not last long.

Do you know how hard it is to find really good, 90 point-rated Pinot Noir for less than $20? Trust me, it's not easy, but occasionally wines like this show up on the scene. Great Pinot Noir isn't just made in Burgundy, Oregon, and California any more, and Jean Perrier's 2020 Gastronomie is proof positive. Here is a wine that delivers classic and unadulterated Pinot Noir aromas and flavors at a great price.
I have long been a fan of Jean Perrier's lovely white wine, but it appears the Pinot Noir is a new addition to the portfolio, and I welcome it with open arms. What I love about this wine is its transparency; it is not trying to be something grand and regal. Instead, it just is what it is, and I find it quite enchanting.
From southeast-facing vines grown in granite and clay-limestone soils, this one is fermented in stainless steel and never sees oak. The resulting wine possesses the lively red fruit of a Red Burgundy, the "quaffability" of a Cru Beaujolais, and the earthy minerality of a Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. I love all of these wines and to get all of these attributes packed into one wine at less than $20 is truly remarkable.
Wine Spectator summed it up nicely as well. "A bright, racy and piercing style, with a focused beam of red currant and damson plum notes flecked with savory hints and underscored with a fine chalky minerality. Small in scale, but pure and precise."
With just 12% ABV, this charming and refreshing red is easy on the body, and it is very easy to drink with or without food. I see roasted salmon, sweet potatoes, a simple salad, and a bottle of this in my near future. I highly advise you to do the same.
