Saurus Pinot Noir 2021

Pretty Patagonian Pinot Noir: 2021 Familia Schroeder Saurus Pinot Noir Select

Every time I sell a bottle of this, I tell customers that Patagonia is the new frontier for Pinot Noir. They kind of look at me funny, but I'd say about 90% of them come back and buy more of the Saurus Pinot Noir.

Why? Because it's delicious, and I've always said that this drinks like a $25 to $30 Sonoma County Pinot Noir. I stand behind those words, and at less than $20, I think Saurus is one of the great Pinot Noir values we stock.

If you need a delicious and dependable red for all sorts of occasions and preferences, look no further.

Saurus Pinot Noir

2021 Familia Schroeder 'Saurus' Pinot Noir Select

Drinks like a $25-$30 Sonoma County Pinot Noir!

It doesn't take long to realize this is a great bottle of Pinot Noir. From its generous nose of ripe cherry, raspberry, and flowers to its ripe, silky, and long palate, there's a lot to like here. With air, some modest complexity even comes to the surface -- a hint of mushroom, cocoa, and vanilla arise as this one comes out of its shell.

There is a good reason why lots of folks are investing in the vineyards of Patagonia. Dry weather, frequent winds, rivers carrying unpolluted snowmelt water, cool nights, and long summer days.....you couldn't ask for much better conditions to cultivate the vine, yet the region's wines are just beginning to get noticed.

That's not true, I've been stocking the Saurus Pinot Noir since early 2017, long before Patagonian Pinot was getting so much praise. It's a personal favorite of mine for daily consumption, but I have a bit of bad news. In the new year, this is going to take a substantial price increase. My advice -- buy it now and save big!

Just in case you need another opinion, a handful of critics/publications have had very positive things to say about this one. Wine and Food named it one of the best sub-$20 Pinot Noirs in the world, and both the Wine Advocate and Vinous Media rated it at 89 points.

That's not a shabby score at all, especially when you consider the price-to-point ratio. Very impressive wine, and a great introduction to Patagonian Pinot.
