Saurus Pinot Noir 2019

Pretty Patagonian Pinot Noir: 2019 Familia Schroeder Saurus Pinot Noir

Every time I sell a bottle of this, I tell customers that Patagonia is the new frontier for Pinot Noir. They kind of look at me funny, but I'd say about 90% of them come back and buy more of the Saurus Pinot Noir.

Why? Because it's delicious, and I've always said that this is reminiscent of a $25 to $30 Sonoma County Pinot Noir. I stand behind those words still, and at less than $20, I truly believe this is one of the great Pinot Noir values out there.

It does not take long to recognize that this is a great bottle of Pinot Noir. From its generous nose of ripe cherry, raspberry, and flowers to its ripe, silky, and long palate, there's a lot to like here. With air, some modest complexity even comes to the surface -- a hint of mushroom, cocoa, and vanilla arise as this one comes out of its shell.

There is a good reason why lots of folks are investing in the vineyards of Patagonia. Dry weather, frequent winds, rivers carrying unpolluted snowmelt water, cool nights, and long summer days.....you couldn't ask for much better conditions to cultivate the vine, yet the region's wines are just beginning to get noticed.

That's not true, I've been stocking the Saurus Pinot Noir since early 2017, and it's a go-to wine for both staff and customers. We just got word that this one will be taking a substantial price increase in the near future, so I went ahead and bought my distributor's remaining inventory. Buy it now and save big!

Just in case you need another opinion, James Sucking summed this one up well. "An attractive style with fresh red cherries and a swathe of fresh flowers. The palate has a very attractively lithe, juicy and fresh feel with good concentration of red-cherry flavor. Impressive purity here. Drink or hold."

Don't hold it, it is really delicious right now, and it does not require much air before it struts its stuff. Twenty 6-packs seems like a good amount of wine, but trust me, this will be gone in no time.
