Maubernard's 2018 Bandol Rouge is for the lover of bold, intense, and complex French reds. Almost entirely Mourvedre from old, certified organic, terraced vineyards in the most sought-after zone in the appellation, this is one of the top Bandol Rouge values I've ever had.
Located right next door to Chateau Pibarnon, with whom they share the same oenologist, this drinks like one of the "big boys" (Tempier, Pibarnon, and Pradeaux), but it costs substantially less.

Good Bandol Rouge is every bit as exciting and compelling as Chateauneuf, Bordeaux, and Burgundy. Trust me, this is fabulous Bandol Rouge that showcases the spicy, black-fruited power of Mourvedre grown near the sea.
This "sleeper" estate was founded in the late 1800's, and they've quietly and humbly been making delicious wines for over 150 years. Brought to NC by importer Thomas Meunier of Authentique Vin, this is another stellar selection from this talented importer. He's the same guy that brings us the Verpaille Macon, the Tour des Graves Blanc, and several others. Merci Monsieur Meunier!
Full of classic French character, this earthy, savory, and spicy red wine is a beast of a wine...but it's like a "trained beast." With five years of age on it, the tannin has had time to mellow, the oak has had time to settle in, and this is one delicious and complete glass of red wine.
Immediate aromas of cinnamon, mint, violet, and blackcurrant lead into a concentrated palate of black fruits, mint, and savory spice. Powerful yet finely-rounded on the palate, the tannins are ripe and supple, and the wine finishes with a savory persistence.
This is one of my top 5 red wines of 2023, and I hope you get to enjoy it. With just 60 bottles available, I'm afraid not everyone will get to. If you want some, you want to get your order in quick.
