2021 Vina Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 'Limited Selection'

Pleasure-Bent Paso Robles Cab: 2021 Vina Robles Limited Selection

The Vina Robles Cabernet Sauvignon captures the style of Paso Robles Cab and then some. Quite rich, plush, and luxurious, it's my pick for the top US-made Cab value that we stock.

Warm and sunny Paso Robles is responsible for some of the most decadent and opulent red wines produced in our country, and here's a prime example. For less than $25 per bottle, you get a Cab that could easily go head-to-head with a $40-$50 version from Napa or Sonoma.

Apparently, the winery is discontinuing this bottling, and the only Cab available from Vina Robles moving forward will be the the also delicious but more expensive Estate Cab. Stock up and save big before that happens.

I'm going to start with Wine Enthusiast's review of the 2019, as the two vintages are qualitatively similar. "This is a rich and thoroughly satisfying Cab, starting with aromas of roasted boysenberry, cocoa, violet and toasty oak on the nose. The palate is cohesive and neatly woven, with rich black fruit, mocha and espresso flavors that are wrapped in firm but balanced tannins."

I got nearly identical notes on the 2021, a year that the region's producers were very happy with -- click here to read more about that. This 100% estate-grown Cab out-classes and a lot of more well-known and more expensive wines from Paso Robles, Napa, and Sonoma. 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Petit Verdot, it was aged for 20 months in French and American oak.

The resulting wine is a great example of why Cabernet Sauvignon remains the most popular red wine for American wine lovers. No, this ain't Bordeaux folks. One sip of this wine and you know it could only come from warm and sunny California. It possesses that combination of plush texture, opulent fruit, and ripe tannin that Paso Robles Cabs are known for. Trust me, there is no need to delay gratification because I can't imagine this stuff is going to get any better than it is right now.

With great deal pricing in place, I highly recommend you stock up on this one. Once those 10 cases are gone, the price is going up substantially.
