The Massone Gavi Masera is a masterpiece of an Italian white wine. It’s also a perfect one to sip on sunny spring and summer days. As with all wines from the Gavi region, this is 100% Cortese, and it’s a wine that possesses both good concentration and a fresh and crisp character.
Stefano Massone has dedicated his life to Gavi and the Cortese grape. Today, his estate is recognized as one of the reference points of the region, and this is one of the great white wine values on the planet. Stock up on this one for sunny day sippin'!

Gavi is one of the great white wines of Italy’s Piemonte region. Unfortunately, many that are imported to the US fall flat. They are often lean, green, and acidic, but Stefano Massone’s version is ideal. With vineyards in the warmer, southeastern part of Gavi, his Cortese grapes gain great ripeness while preserving vivacious acidity.
Even better, the Massone Estate is organic, so not only is this one delicious, it’s also produced with respect for the earth and the imbiber. The Masera Vineyard was planted in 1978 in very poor, rocky, lime and calcium-rich soils. It is these well-drained, rocky, mineral-rich soils that give us some of the finest white wines in the world.
What’s it taste like? You will be surprised with the depth of flavor here. There’s pear and apple along with white flowers and delicate minerality on the nose and the palate. What I love most though is how the wine is concentrated and full-flavored, yet light and fresh at the same time. Bravo to Stefano for being able to achieve this balance.
What’s it good with? Fish, shrimp, herb roasted chicken, but don’t forget the green veggies. Have fun with this one folks – it really just wants a couple glasses and some good company. Make it happen!
