Chehalem is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected producers, and their 2023 Pinot Gris is exceptional. Rated 91 points by Decanter (Britain's top wine mag) and 89 points by Wine Enthusiast, this value-priced white is a classic partner to turkey, ham, and savory sides.
I had a bottle just last night with some pan-roasted salmon, and it was a joyous occasion. The wine's fruit-driven style is held in check by its freshness and bright acidity, and it is that combination of factors that I always look for in a Turkey Day White.

- I love Wine Enthusiast's summary of this wine. "At $20, this light-bodied Pinot Gris with gentle acidity is a honey of a deal." Yes, it's a great deal, and it emits plenty of honeydew melon, honeysuckle, golden apple, lemon curd, and mineral notes.
- Pinot Gris is genetically the same grape as Pinot Grigio, but this is quite different from Italian Pinot Grigio. Chehalem's Pinot Gris is much plumper, more aromatic, and more interesting than most Italian Pinot Grigios in this price range.
- Oregon Pinot Gris' have gotten a bit more spendy of late. We know, and to be able to get a 91 point-rated Pinot Gris made by a veteran producer is no easy feat.
- It certainly loves lighter fare (poultry, pork, seafood), but it does not require it. Oregon Pinot Gris is wonderful as a standalone aperitif.
