For the 6th consecutive vintage, Allan Scott's outstanding Sauvignon Blanc has registered a 90+ point score from Wine Spectator. I doubt there are many other wines in this price range that can claim that same feat.
Not only did it score 93 points, it comes to you at less than $20 and as low as $15.99 per bottle! This is year in and year out one of Marlborough's top Sauvignon Blancs, and the 2023 is another stellar effort from this pioneering estate.
2023 Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
93 points Wine Spectator
Allan Scott is an actual guy, and he is credited with planting some of the first Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in New Zealand's Marlborough zone. He's worked every harvest back to 1973, and the guy knows the land, the grapes, and the conditions of the region better than any other.
Today, Allan is helped by his wife Catherine along with his son Josh (winemaker) and his daughters Sara and Victoria (viticulturist and marketing manager). It's a true family-run estate, exactly the kind of winery I formed Table Wine around, and they are great stewards of the land as well as wonderful ambassadors of New Zealand wine culture.
Their 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is a modern classic, and while I'm not a huge Marlborough Sauv Blanc guy, I love this one. There's a terrific interplay of crisp citrus fruits, sublime texture, and complexity going on here. It all adds up to an entirely enjoyable bottle of wine to enjoy with seafood, spicy Asian fare, or nothing more than a glass and a good friend.
Wine Spectator nailed it with their review. "This leaps out of the glass, with expressive, intense fruit flavors of silky smooth lemon meringue, mango, tangerine and fresh-cut apple. Candied ginger and green tea notes join a detail of salted lime before lingering on the mouthwatering finish. Drink now."
So there you go, one of Wine Spectator's highest rated New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs of the vintage at a great price. Those 120 bottles won't last long....
