For the 5th consecutive vintage, Allan Scott's outstanding Sauvignon Blanc has registered a 90+ point score from Wine Spectator. I doubt there are many other wines in this price range that can claim that same feat.
Not only did this score 93 points, it actually out-scored Cloudy Bay (92 points and $35), New Zealand's original Sauvignon Blanc All-Star. It is also just 1 of 6 Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs to garner 93 points and sell for less than $20 in the history of Wine Spectator. Among those 6 wines, 3 of those 93 point, sub-$20 scores went to Allan Scott as well (2021 and 2019).

It should come as no surprise that Allan Scott has produced one of New Zealand’s top Sauvignon Blancs of the vintage. He is an icon and has worked every harvest since 1973. He’s credited with planting some of Marlborough’s most famous vineyards, including the very first. His intuition to plant his vineyards along the northern edge of the Wairau Valley has paid off. It is this area that is now home to New Zealand’s top Sauvignon Blanc vineyards.
A true family-owned and -operated winery, Allan and his wife Catherine established their estate in 1990 as one of the first independent wineries of Marlborough. Today, it remains family owned and operated. The Scotts remain involved in all levels of production; their son Josh is the winemaker; and their daughters Sara and Victoria are the viticulturist and marketing manager, respectively. Their vineyard practices are super clean, basically organic, and in 2006, the Scott Family Winery joined the Sustainable Winegrowers program and continues to follow its practices closely.
All of this hard work combined with the family’s excellent vineyards and Marlborough’s unique combination of cool nights, sunny days and rocky soils has added up to greatness in their 2022 Sauvignon Blanc. A modern classic, Wine Spectator did a great job of describing it and I have nothing to add. “Delivers a terrific, lip-smacking mix of crunchy sea salt, toasted herbs and tropical flavors that show terrific purity to the Key lime, dried pineapple and passionfruit flavors at the core. Reveals intense acidity on the long finish.”
So there you go -- one of Wine Spectator's highest-rated Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs of the vintage, but certainly not one of the most expensive. With temps on the serious rise around here, this is going to make you happy and keep you cool.
