This slightly pink/orange wine from Australia's McPherson Wine company is truly delicious. Reminiscent of a great Oregon Pinot Gris, this is an incredible value and perfect as an aperitif or served alongside Thai, Indian, or Vietnamese fare.

This wine really took me by surprise when I tasted it last week with my sales rep. I don't know that I've ever had a Pinot Gris from Australia, but if they're all like this, I need to investigate further. With all of the richness and textural pleasure of an Oregon Pinot Gris, but coming to you at less than $17, this is a ton of wine for the money.
What's even more intriguing about this wine is that it is made using the ramato method. This is a historical method of making Pinot Grigio, usually reserved for those from the Friuli region of Italy. The grapes are crushed and the skins are allowed to spend a bit of time with the juice. The resulting wine has a fuller texture and a pale pinkish hue.
It's kind of like dry rose meets orange wine, but all buzzwords aside, this wine tastes really, really good. Produced from high elevation sites scattered throughout Victoria, this has a wonderful bouquet of white peach, Bosc pear, white flowers, and exotic spices. The palate is fresh yet rounded with a seamless texture and a long and satisfying finish.
Bravo to the McPhersons, one of the oldest and most respected family growers of Victoria. Like I said earlier, a bottle of this and spicy Asian food would be a match made in heaven. If you haven't tried Wild Ginger or Khao Thai, do yourself a favor and pick some food up from one of these fantastic South Asheville establishments. Cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
