2021 Kanzler Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

Like Kosta Browne and Rivers-Marie Pinots? TRY THIS!

I had a bottle of this last night. Goodness gracious, Kanzler's 2021 Pinot Noir is clicking on all cylinders. It's a bigger, fuller, and flashier Pinot Noir for sure, but it still maintains wonderful elegance and detail.

I'm not the only one who loves it. Wine Spectator rated it 94 points, and I'd personally give it more like 96 points. This Kosta Browne-like Pinot is certainly a splurge, but it's totally worth it, and you deserve to treat yourself :)

Kanzler Pinot Noir RRV

2021 Kanzler Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

94 points Wine Spectator, 96 points Yours Truly

This is a total rock star of a Pinot Noir, and it showcases its pedigree very well. Quite rich and full-bodied, it exhibits a mix of ripe red and dark berries, Asian spices, cigar tobacco, black tea, and more. Full and silky on the palate, it finishes long and spicy, with a hint of forest floor.

I could go on and on, but I'll let Wine Spectator chime in. "Ripe, with deliciously succulent waves of plum, boysenberry and mulberry fruit rolling through, laced with iris and hibiscus notes and ending with light anise and apple wood hints on the finish. Packs a nice finishing kick of fruit at the end, too, while keeping a racy edge. Best from 2024 through 2032. 1,050 cases made."

If I were teaching a class on the virtues of Russian River Pinot Noir, this is the wine I would use. Kanzler Vineyards was established in 1996 by husband and wife Stephen and Lynda. They were THE FIRST to plant Pinot Noir in the chilly Sebastopol Hills in western Sonoma County. Today, this sub-zone of the RRV is recognized as some of the best Pinot Noir terroir in the state.

Kanzler's Vineyard has quite the track record. Russian River all-stars like Kosta Browne, Rivers-Marie, and Lynmar have all produced a single-vineyard Pinot from this site for nearly 2 decades. If you can actually get your hands on any of the aforementioned, go for it, but you'll drop $100+.

In 2004, the Kanzlers started producing their own wines with grapes exclusively from their estate vineyard. Those early releases got noticed immediately by the likes of Robert Parker and Wine Spectator, and that continues to be the case today.

When you get this into your glass, you'll know what I'm talking about. Enjoy this irresistible Pinot with filet mignon, pork tenderloin, or just enjoy by itself. It unfolds nicely :)
