Left Coast Cellars Pinot Noir "Cali's Cuvee" 2012

Left Coast Cellars Pinot Noir "Cali's Cuvee" 2012

SOLD OUT! If you’ve been shopping with us for awhile, you’ll remember how good the 2012 Elk Cove Pinot Noir was. Guess what? This one is just as good and a lot less expensive.

Oregon’s Willamette Valley experienced a brilliant vintage in 2012 (Wine Spectator rated the vintage 97 points), and this might be the last great value available from the vintage. Rated 92 points by Wine & Spirits Magazine, I just bought the last 6 cases of this one.

Left Coast Cellars is one of Oregon’s rising stars. Founded just 12 years ago by Suzanne and Robert Pfaff, the estate has close to 160 acres under vine, and the winery is about as “clean” as they come. The winery is LIVE (Low Impact Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon Safe certified, and they also participate in the groundbreaking program “Salud” that guarantees basic healthcare to seasonal field workers. And last but not least, the winery is 90 solar powered, making it the second largest solar grant in Oregon.

This care for the land and the people who tend it is admirable, but what about the wine? I know, there’s a lot of organic and sustainable wines out there that just don’t deliver. This one over delivers! Named after the family’s daughter, this is 100% Pinot Noir made with Dijon, Pommard, and Wadensil clones.

It is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for 10 months in French oak. Beautifully scented with that classic Oregon earth and fruit balance, it is ripe, silky, and harmonious. Supple dark cherry, plum, forest floor, and exotic spice notes inform the nose and the palate of this fuller styled, but silky smooth Oregon Pinot Noir.
