The 2024 Le Grange de Piaugier Vin de France Blanc is unbelievable, and the stunning aromatics it presents are ones I usually associate with $30+ bottles of white wine.
Many of you know the wines of Domaine de Piaugier, one of my favorite producers in the Southern Rhone. Their new Blanc is somewhat unusual, because it's made from 100% Grenache Noir produced from the the free-run juice.
Basically a Blanc de Noir without bubbles, it smells straight up like a peach orchard surrounded by wildflowers. It's my early pick for my top white wine find of 2025, and I bought all 14 cases that were allocated to WNC. Trust me, get a six-pack!

I think it’s hard to argue the fact that Domaine de Piaugier makes some of the top values in the Southern Rhone. Based in the village of Sablet, just north of Gigondas, the Autran family farm their 30 hectares of vines with care and consideration for the earth. Their wines are always good, showing a wonderful combination of purity, honesty, and traditional style.
This the debut vintage of their Vin de France Blanc, and I'm pretty sure the young Maude Autran, who's slowly taking over the daily operations at Piaugier, had something to do with that. This is the first time I've had free-run Grenache Noir....that's right, this is not Grenache Blanc, as that's its own grape altogether. It's totally novel, and it's a wine that smells great and tastes just a good.
The grapes are harvested earlier than usual, and the juice is run off quickly after pressing to ensure it is crystal clear. Fermented entirely in tank to "trap in" its wonderful aromas and flavors, this smells of summer peach, apricot, tropical fruits, honeysuckle, and light spice. Balancing richness of fruit with zesty acids, this one keeps you coming back for sip after happy sip.
Lynn and I enjoyed this recently with some spicy butter chicken from Cinnamon Kitchen, and it was a marvelous wine-and-dine moment. I recommend you do the same!
