Marietta Cellars Arme

Insane California Cab Value: 2019 Marietta Cellars Arme

The 2019 Marietta Arme, the estate's value-priced Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend, is back and it's another stellar vintage for this wine. Rated 94 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and coming to you at a great price, this is a wine that out-scored a number of notable wines:

Check out this list of other 2019 California Cabs that the Wine Advocate reviewed. This is one of the most trusted publications in the "biz," and these are just a handful of wines that cost more and rated lower than Arme. You do the math...

- Stags' Leap Artemis -- 90 points and $50 to $75
- Frank Family -- 91 points and $40 to $50
- Cakebread Suscol Springs -- 89 points and $130
- Quilt -- 89 points and $40
- Chappellet Signature -- 93 points and $75
- CADE -- 92 points and $100

Vintage 2019 was considered a great one for North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Spectator rated the overall vintage at 97 points, calling it a "worthy follow-up to the benchmark 2018 vintage." A contender for the #1 North Coast Cab value, this is a total no-brainer for the California Cab lover to drink now and over the next 10 years.

Since purchasing several hundred acres of certified organic vineyards a few years back, 2nd generation vigneron Scott Bilbro has taken his family's estate to the next level. Scott and his team have been on a hot streak of late -- in Vintage 2019, all 8 of Marietta's red wines scored 94-96 points (Wine Advocate), and we've featured all of them!

In my estimation, Arme is Marietta's best value in their prolific portfolio. It  offers up the best of both worlds, combining the ripe fruit of a classic California Cab with the herbal, spicy, and savory nuances of a Bordeaux.  Composed of grapes from Marietta's own Angeli Estate in the Alexander Valley with the balance from their McDowell Valley estate vineyard, it's impossible to beat for the money.

I love the mix of fruit and the more savory nuances that this one offers up. There's wonderfully ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum fruit, but the real joy of this wine is the "other stuff" that's going on. Minty herb and eucalyptus, leather, cigar tobacco, violet, and earth intertwine with that gorgeous fruit to create a sumptuous, polished, and zesty Cab. I highly recommend decanting this for a good 30-60 minutes if you plan to drink this one now.

Full-bodied, deep, and chewy, this wine has all of the attributes you typically associate with a $50+ bottle of wine. Feel free to "fact check" me online for pricing and scores, and you'll quickly see that everything I said checks out. I bought my distributor's last 14 cases, and I suspect those will exit the store rapidly.
