Wow, Colette's 2023 Regnie Vieilles Vignes is undoubtedly the best vintage of this wine we've ever stocked! Fresh, enlivening, and charming, it is the essence of Gamay, and it goes down way too easy.
Husband and wife Jacky and Evelyne Gauthier work with 75-80-year-old-vines, and in the excellent 2023 vintage, those old vines yielded a gorgeous wine that is both crushable and contemplative.
This is my idea of the perfect and quintessential summer red, and we just got our 7-case allocation for the year. For lovers of Cru Beaujolais, go for it, but this will also appeal to Red Burgundy and Chinon fans too.
2023 Domaine de Colette Regnie Vieilles Vignes -- Why Should You Buy It?
- It's fresh and juicy, but it's also got some power to it. Enticing aromas of dark cherry, dark raspberry, cranberry, violet, spice, and flinty mineral lead into a complex and deep palate.
- Regnie often plays "second fiddle" to Morgon, it's more famous and more expensive neighbor to the west, but that is not the case here. Colette's Regnie would totally hold its own in a blind tasting against many Morgons.
- This is Cru Beaujolais, not Beaujolais Nouveau, not even close! Within the region of Beaujolais, there are 10 crus or villages that have proven themselves to produce better and more compelling wines over the course of hundreds of years.
- Domaine de Colette is certified organic and their 2023 Regnie VV gets a "certified delicious sticker" from me!
Drink this very noble red over the next 5-7 years with roast chicken, pork tenderloin, or a nice spread of cheeses and charcuterie. Your palate will thank you!
