2025 Zarate Albarino

Genre Defining Spanish White: 2025 Zarate Albarino

The Zarate Albarino is one of the finest values in the world of "serious" white wine. One of the pioneering estates of this noble Spanish white variety, they continue to set the standard for what great Albarino can be.

In a top vintage like 2025, Zarate's baseline Albarino is clicking on all cylinders, and there's an almost Chablis-like precision to the citrus, white peach, saline sea breeze, and crushed stone aromas and flavors. Having tasted both vintages, I think the 2025 is every bit as good as the highly acclaimed 2024, which earned multiple 93-94 point ratings, and it's on deal at a great price.

Zarate Albarino

Just $24.99/bottle (no further discounts), and I snagged my distributor's last 7 cases.

Few producers have done more to elevate the reputation of Albarino than Zarate. Founded in 1707 in the Val do Salnes, the historic birthplace of Albarino, they are one of the estates that helped put Rias Baixas on the world wine map. When the region gained appellation status in 1988, there were just thirty wineries and most of the wine was consumed locally.

Today, there are over 200 wineries in the region, and Albarino is regarded as Spain's most celebrated white grape. The individual who makes all of this greatness happen is Eulogio Pomares, one of the most influential figures in modern Spanish wine. Through his meticulous farming, native yeast fermentations, and commitment to expressing site over technique, he has helped redefine the upper limits of what Albarino can achieve.

The fruit for this wine comes from 35 year old, organically farmed vineyards situated on weathered granite soils. These rocky soils naturally limit yields, producing grapes of tremendous concentration and mineral intensity. Fermented in tank and aged on its fine lees for 8 months, this is bottled with tiny doses of sulfur, and the finished product is truly outstanding.

Bright, energetic, and intensely mineral, it combines freshness and precision with remarkable depth and persistence. This is everything I want from Albarino and then some. I can't wait to enjoy a bottle with some seafood, and you should do the same.

Just 84 bottles up for grabs and one of the best prices in the country on one of Spain's benchmark whites. Don't miss out!
