This is a new white from Lafage, and I guarantee you it's going to develop its own fan club. Crafted by Eliane Lafage (Jean-Marc's wife), it is a six grape white blend that is fragrant, dry, and slightly fizzy. It would be a great wine to enjoy with Thanksgiving dinner!
In France, the wine is labeled "Lafabuleuse," and yes, it is 100% fabulous. This highly aromatic white not only looks great (check out the bottle), it also tastes great. Think about a Picpoul with a touch of effervescence....or a more aromatic Txakoli or Vinho Verde. It's a party in a bottle!

If you thought Jean-Marc was the only member of the Lafage family that could make highly likable wine, think again. His wife Eliane oversees production on this one, a six grape white blend with just a bit of fizz to it. Eliane has consulted for wineries in Italy for years, and her experience helped her to create this wonderful white wine.
A blend of Vermentino, Muscat, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard, and Macabeu, Eliane makes this one in a unique fashion. Each of the grapes is harvested separately, when they have reached optimal ripeness. The grapes are stored at near freezing temperatures under gas to prevent oxidation and preserve flavors. Once all of the grapes are harvested, they are blended and fermented together. Right when the wine reaches dryness, Eliane quickly cools down the fermentation vat which preserves some natural CO2 in the wine. It sounds like a labor of love to me, but the results are stunning.
The combination of aromatic and zesty grapes is the key to success here. A range of heavenly aromas and flavors are all present -- white peach, fresh pear, honeysuckle, green herbs, rose petal, and citrus zest all show up in this immensely likable white. Despite the range of aromas and flavors, this one stays light, crisp, and mouthwatering on the palate.
An ideal wine for poultry and seafood dishes, this one is also great with no food at all. It honestly reminds me of what Conundrum used to taste like. I bought my distributor's last 7 cases -- once those are gone, we'll be waiting for the next vintage to be released.
