Serial Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Does it get smoother than this? 2019 Serial Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

WOW was all I could say after tasting the 2019 Serial Cabernet Sauvignon. This new Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon from John Anthony Truchard is one of the smoothest and most pleasure-bent California Cabs I've tasted in a long time. If it carried a Napa Valley appellation, it would run you 2 to 3 times the price.

This wine is going to create quite the buzz (no pun intended) about town, I guarantee it! You've got a great producer, a classy looking label, and most importantly, delicious juice....at less than $30. After years of growing grapes and making wines in the Napa Valley, John Anthony Truchard decided to branch out and produce more value-driven wines. He chose Paso Robles due to the region's reputation for high quality fruit and approachable pricing.

With the debut vintage of his Cabernet Sauvignon, I'd say he's killing it! This wine offers up style and flair you typically pay $50 or more for. I know this sounds too good to be true, but it isn't. It's not uncommon for new wineries or wines to debut at ridiculously low prices. They want to get their wine in as many glasses as possible, get you liking their wine, and then raise the price. I've been in this line of work for 20+ years, and I've seen it happen time and time again.

Whether Mr. Truchard is following this business plan or not, who really cares?! I say seize the day, and stock up on this one while it's at such a low price. As I said earlier, this stuff is incredibly smooth and polished. If you like a structure, tannin, and grip to your Cab, this isn't for you. However, if you love Cabs that glide across your palate without any bite, edge, or astringency, you're going to love this one.

It pours a very dark, nearly opaque color and the nose is immediate, forward, and delightful. I pick up scents of warm berry preserves, cassis, chocolate, cedar, and spice box. The palate is also quite attractive dense, rich, and concentrated flavors and round, soft tannins and mild acidity. Simply put, this is gonna' make heads spin.

A perfect "Cocktail Cab," it would also fare well with your favorite cut of steak, beef stew, or a lamb burger. You're going to flip when you taste this one. Until we meet again, keep on drinking the good stuff folks!
