Many of you know and love Kirk Venge's Zinfandel-driven Red Blend. Named after his dog Scout, this ripe and decadently delicious red is the perfect wine for those who like their wines large and in-charge!
2022 Venge Scout's Honor Red Blend
Pure Pleasure Red Wine!
I personally think this out-classes a lot of larger production and popular red blends, like The Prisoner, Orin Swift Abstract, and a host of others that cost more and are made in much larger quantities.
When my sales rep let me know this was on sale last week, I snagged 14 cases. We sold 7 of the 14 to just walk-in customers by telling them it was on deep deal. People love this wine, and I totally get it. It's big, plump, and generous, you can enjoy it with or without food, and it's the best value red that Kirk Venge makes.
For the 2022 vintage, this is roughly 75% Zinfandel from Venge's Signal Fire Vineyard in Calistoga, balanced by dry-farmed Petite Sirah, old-vine Charbono, and a splash of mountain-grown Syrah from Stagecoach Vineyard. Aged for 14 months in a mix of French and American oak (50% new), this is extroverted, unpretentious, and incredibly satisfying.
Boasting a deep, nearly opaque color, it coats the palate with hedonistic notes of dark cherry liqueur, ripe blackberry, peppery spice, crushed herbs, and spicy, toasty oak. Opulent and rounded on the palate, it finishes super long with fine-grained tannins and mild acidity.
Almost Amarone-like in terms of decadence, this stuff is 100% delicious, and it can best be summed up with two words: PLEASURE BENT!
