This is an absurdly good deal on a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon produced by one of Chile's oldest and most respected wineries. The 2018 Cousino Macul Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon walks a fine line between Old and New World styles, and this has got to be a candidate for the top Cab value in the world.
Rated 94 points by Descorchados, Chile's top wine publication, we are bringing this to you at less than $17! You read that right.....94 point-rated, age-worthy, stoic Cabernet from a legendary producer at less than twenty bucks. Back up the truck folks!

I have very fond memories of my visit to this wonderful estate back in 2005. We were guided through a tasting of several vintages of this wine going back to the late 1960's, and every vintage we tasted was fantastic! Yep, this wine has a proven track record for aging, but at the same time, this drinks really great right out of the gate.
Founded in 1856, Cousino-Macul is the only 19th century winery in Chile that remains in the hands of the original founding family. All of their reserve wines are estate grown and bottled, and after seven generations and over 150 years of experience, the family has a firm grasp on what they are doing. Further, their Antiguas Reservas truly showcases the distinctive character of Chile's Maipo Valley.
As I said earlier, this is a wine that shows both Old and New World character. The bouquet reminds me of a really good Bordeaux, with its mint, violet, eucalyptus, and red fruit notes. This leads into a medium-bodied, elegant palate with good structure and flavors of ripe cherry, currant, blackberry, pepper, and herb. The flavors honestly remind me of a sophisticated, mountain-grown, Sonoma Cabernet......at less than $20!
This is an awesome wine to enjoy with a grilled strip steak or lamb chops now, but I would also advise you to lay a couple of bottles down for 5 to 7 years. This will develop additional nuance and substance if stored in a cool and dark place for a bit. There are not many sub-$20 wines I can say this about.
