Luis Pato is an icon of the "New Portugal," a passionate group of producers who are hell-bent on showing the world how great their country's non-fortified wines are. We are so happy that Pato's wines are now available in North Carolina.
This lovely white is composed entirely of Maria Gomes (aka Fernao Pires), a grape that is native to Portugal's Bairrada DOC, just west of the Dao region. Exotically scented, spicy, and offering up some of the botanical nuances of a White Vermouth, this is a great example of a master vigneron elevating a humble grape to new heights.
2022 Luis Pato Maria Gomes Branco -- Here's why you should buy it:
- It is made by one of Portugal's most celebrated winemakers. Luis Pato marches to the beat of his own drummer, and that individual spirit is alive and well in this white.
- While you might get to drink Maria Gomes if you visited Portugal, it's pretty rare to find it in the US. White wine adventurers will love it for its unique personality!
- Wonderful aromas of yellow plum, peach, dried apricot, white flowers, and spice lead into a crisp and medium-bodied palate.
- If you love aromatic whites that have good lift and acidity, you've GOT TO TRY THIS!
