Guarachi Lucas and Sophie Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Classy, Classic, and Sophisticated: 2023 Guarachi 'Lucas and Sophie' Cabernet Sauvignon

If you want an absolute rock star of a Napa Cab in your glass this 4th of July, the 2023 Guarachi 'Lucas and Sophie' Cab is one that gets my full endorsement.

Coming from an A+ vintage for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it shows the power and complexity of wines that cost 2 to 3 times the price.

Rated 95 points by The Tasting Panel (more big scores coming), we are offering this stunning Atlas Peak Cab up at one of the best prices in the United States. Just 500 cases were produced, and we just received our 60-bottle allocation. Get on it!

Guarachi Lucas and Sophie Cabernet Sauvignon

Being good friends with Paul Hobbs comes with benefits, and Alex Guarachi and Paul have been buds for over 30 years. Prior to starting his family winery, Guarachi was an importer of top South American wines, including those made by Hobbs in Argentina (Vina Cobos).

The two formed a strong relationship, and when Alex decided to start his own winery in 2013, the first person he called was Paul Hobbs. Since then, Paul and his team of highly-talented winemakers at Paul Hobbs Consulting have crafted all of the Guarachi wines. It shows!

Guarachi's Lucas and Sophie Cabernet Sauvignon is named after his children, and it is made with fruit from their Meadowrock Vineyard, high up on Atlas Peak. The mix of rocky volcanic soils, great exposure, and hot days and cool nights are ideal for Cab, and this wine turned out brilliantly in the fantastic 2023 vintage.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in new French oak, this is rich, regal, and complex, with classic mountain structure and layers of black fruit, tobacco, graphite, and bittersweet chocolate. Spicy and savory on the nose, this coats the palate with ripe black cherry, warm blueberry, blackberry, plum compote, and toasty oak.

This hedonistic, full-bodied red is drinking well now, and I suspect it will continue to evolve over the next decade. If you want to drink it now, I'd recommend decanting it for an hour or so. It's great right out of the bottle, but air and time make it taste even better!
