Pouilly-Fumé is home to some of the most mineralic and energetic Sauvignon Blancs on the planet, and Domaine Blanchet’s 2024 Vieilles Vignes is a beautiful example.
Produced by an 8th-generation, family-run estate just east of Sancerre, this classic Loire Valley white captures the smoky, flinty character that defines the appellation. Sourced from old vines rooted deep in the region’s rocky limestone soils, it delivers vibrant notes of Meyer lemon, lime zest, pear, and crushed stone with incredible freshness and precision.
Old vines are the story here. Blanchet includes some of their oldest Sauvignon Blanc plantings in this bottling, with some of those vines now more than 80 years old. These deep-rooted, old, low-yielding vines give us an intensely mineralic, complex Sauvignon Blanc that is just brimming with energy and vitality.
I really had to maintain my poker face when I tasted this wine and heard the price. We’re talking about first-rate Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc for less than $30, and it massively overdelivers for the money.
