When I smelled and tasted the 2017 Milou Chardonnay, I just about dropped my glass! And when my sales rep shared the price with me, I nearly lost it.
Poker face Josh, poker face. With beautiful purity, crazy-good aromatics, and a layered and plump texture, it acts like a much more expensive Chardonnay. Run, don’t walk, to the store to get some of this. It’s the Chardonnay deal of the year, and you’re gonna’ love it.

The grapes for the Milou Chardonnay are grown on the plateau of Aspères in France’s Languedoc-Roussillon zone. The soils here are composed of marl, clay, and limestone, much like those found in Chablis. And when you combine this with the warmer, maritime-influenced climate of Southern France, you have the makings of a delicious and crowd-pleasing Chardonnay. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees, with weekly battonage (lees stirring), the resulting wine is beautiful — rich, yet clean, and medium to full bodied, but snappy.
A lovely wine that will compete with Chardonnays three to four times the price, it reminds me of some serious and seriously expensive Sonoma County Chardonnays. I won’t name names, but I’ll comfortably say the Milou Chardonnay punches well above its weight class. Laced with incredible aromas and flavors of white peach, golden apple, brown spice, brioche, white flowers and mineral, there’s a lot going on here. And with a perfect yin and yang balance of rich and plump orchard fruit and more zesty and refreshing citrus, this is going to be a new Table Wine best seller.
So whether you’re looking for a great house Chardonnay or one that will wow your cork dork friends, I think I’ve got you covered. Stock up on this for all of your fall functions and stash a case for your Thanksgiving celebrations. You’ll thank me! Cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
