Case of the Month - Michel Gassier Nostre Pais Rouge and Blanc

Case of the Month - Michel Gassier Nostre Pais Rouge and Blanc

SOLD OUT! I know I may sound like a broken record with these Michel Gassier wines! In case you forgot, Michel is the man behind the Cercius Blanc and Cotes du Rhone, two of the best selling wines in the store.

Trust me, if you like the Cercius wines, you owe it to yourself to try Michel’s Nostre Pais wines. Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate rated both of these 92 points.

Michel Gassier Nostre Pais

Highly Rated Southern Rhones From Michel Gassier

Best Price in Western North Carolina

SOLD OUT

Michel Gassier’s family has been raising grapes and making wine in the Costieres de Nimes for four generations. This region, just west of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Southern Rhone Valley of France, has long been home to some of the best values produced in Southern France, and Michel Gassier is one of the undisputed star producers of the region. His knowledge of the land, the grapes, and the climate and his natural skill as a winemaker are showcased in his Nostre Pais wines.

The 2013 Nostre Pais Blanc combines 60% Grenache Blanc with 20% Clairette, 15% Roussanne, and 5% Viognier from older, organically farmed, hand harvested vineyards. Fermentation occurs in a combination of older French oak barrels and stainless steel. Boasting incredible aromas and flavors of golden fruits, complex spice, white flowers, and mineral, it could easily pass for a really good white Chateauneuf du Pape. Rated 92 points by Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate, he called it “(o)ne of my favorite whites from the region, as well as a year in, year out value.”

Equally impressive, Jeb rated the 2013 Nostre Pais Rouge 92 points and described it as such: “Medium-bodied, silky and layered, with building tannin, this elegantly styled Costières will drink nicely on release and evolve for 4-5 years” A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre and the balance Carignan and Cinsault, it was fermented in a combination of older barrels and concrete tanks. Like the Nostre Pais Blanc, this is a wine that could give many red Chateauneuf du Papes a serious run for their money.

So there you go, Chateauneuf du Pape like style and flavors at a fraction of the price! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that both of these wines would be great paired with the traditional Thanksgiving meal.
