Case of the Month - 2014 Michel Gassier Cercius Blanc

Case of the Month - 2014 Michel Gassier Cercius Blanc

SOLD OUT! Need a great white wine for all seasons and all palates? I’ve found it!

I’ve been working with the wines from Michel Gassier for five years now, and I’m comfortable with going on the record and stating this is the best Cercius Blanc we’ve ever tasted. A blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Sauvignon Blanc from 25 year old, organically farmed vineyards scattered throughout the Southern Rhone, it’s a ton of wine for the money.

2014 Michel Gassier Cercius Blanc

Exotic, luscious, and vivacious white blend from Southern Rhone!

SOLD OUT

Michel Gassier grew up in the Costieres de Nimes region of France, and his family has been growing grapes here for four generations. He and his wife Tina have helped to raise the bar of quality in this region through a unique combination of organic farming, promoting biodiversity, and championing native grapes while being open minded enough to try new things. The Cercius wines are a joint venture between the Gassiers, importer Eric Solomon, and consultant Philippe Cambie. This all-star team has produced a stunning white wine in the 2014 vintage.

The 2014 Cercius Blanc is only entitled to the designation of Vin de France because of the inclusion of Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that is not “approved” by any of the Southern Rhone AOC’s. This renegade spirit and willingness to take chances at the cost of a familiar label is one of the things that makes us respect Monsieur Gassier even more. It works too! The 2012 vintage of this wine scored 93 points from Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate and we predict that this wine will receive similar marks.

Boasting a medium to full body and a knockout bouquet of peach, tropical fruits, honeysuckle, and mineral, it is rich and beautifully textured with amazing purity, class, and pedigree. It’s one of those white wines that will work with all sorts of palates as it combines richness with freshness. In a nutshell, it’s just plain good and your wine guy says you should go ahead and buy a case.
