I've been on the hunt for extreme values lately, and I'd given up all hope until I tasted this delicious Montepulciano. Brought to us by North Carolina importer and distributor Haw River Wine Man, this is a lot of wine for the money. If you're in need of a great "house red" for casual sipping, the La Piuma Montepulciano is the way to go.

Let's keep it short and sweet here ok? A good bottle of Montepulciano is like a good bottle of Cotes du Rhone. It's not fussy, it's not overly complex, but it is super satisfying and appropriate for breaking open for all sorts of occasions. This is a great bottle of Montepulciano!
Grown along Italy's eastern coast in Abruzzo, Montepulciano is the most widely planted grape of the region. It is also the most exported wine of the region, which unfortunately means there is a lot of cruddy Montepulciano out there. This is not one of those!
Picked by Jim Stock and Mike Tiano, owners of the Haw River Wine Man, this behaves much more like a wine that would run you $15 or more. Fermented in stainless steel, this one pours a deep color and offers up immediate notes of dark berries, plum, pepper, and chocolate. Smooth and velvety on the palate, it is a wine that disappears quickly.
