Delicious Albarino doesn’t just come from Spain, and when you taste the Nortico Alvarinho, that will become overwhelmingly evident! Coming from Portugal's northernmost vineyards, right on the border with Rias Baixas in Spain, this is a dazzling white wine and an extreme value as well.
2022 Nortico Alvarinho
Portugal calls it Alvarinho, Spain calls it Albarino. We call it delicious!

A prime candidate for top Albarino value in the world, this outshines a lot of Spanish versions that go for $20 or more. If you know and love Spanish Albarino, trust me, you'll love this. From vineyards planted on the south bank of the Minho River in Vinho Verde, Nortico has no added CO2, making for a richer, fuller, well-balanced wine that showcases its maritime influence.
It's also my pick for the quintessential summer white. Affordable, fresh, vibrant, and lower in alcohol (12.5% ABV), this tastes especially good at the beach, by the pool, or on the porch. Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness, this dances on the palate with notes of peach, tropical fruits, citrus oil, and minerals. Light in body but big in flavor, it will keep you coming back for sip after sip.
What shall we eat with this? Have it simply with corn bread and butter like country folks do in Portugal. It is also a terrific seafood wine, particularly with salty, fattier dishes like fish tacos or broiled oysters. Or skip the food, and just enjoy nicely chilled with a good friend.
