The Bohigas Cava Brut Reserva is the perfect festive bottle of bubbly to drink this holiday season. From a family-run operation that has been growing grapes on their land since 1290, this is undoubtedly one of the best Cava values in the world.
Not only is this wine dry and delicious, it’s also organic and traditional. Rated 91 points by John Gilman and 90 points by the Wine Advocate, it's a stunning value that gives many Champagnes a serious run for their money.

Highly respected wine commentator John Gilman called this a “really lovely bottle of sparkling wine” with a “deep and complex nose” and “a vibrant blend of apple, grapefruit, great minerality, lovely leesy tones and a topnote of dried flowers.” He went on to say it “shows every sign of being able to age gracefully for a decade in the cellar. 2011-2020+.” This doesn’t read like a sub-$20 sparkling wine does it? Trust me, it doesn’t drink like one either.
The Wine Advocate had a similar glowing review. “Made from a classic blend (for this area) of Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada planted in limestone and clay soils, the wine spends 24 months on its lees before disgorgement. It is an excellent value for consumers looking for alternatives to French Champagne. Lemon/lime, crushed rock and white currant notes are present in this crisp, elegant, refreshing, zesty, dry sparkler. Hints of wheat thins and brioche add complexity.” These tasting notes read ore like those you’d find for a true Champagne, and that’s what the Bohigas Cava drinks like.
The Bohigas family owns prime vineyards in the Anoia River Valley, long considered the best terroir for growing Cava grapes. These high altitude, cool, low-yielding sites result in flavor-packed and high-toned grapes. And these are the qualities that all top sparkling wine producers strive for. The first fermentation takes place in stainless steel, after which the wine is moved into bottle for secondary fermentation. The wine is aged for at least 24 months prior to disgorgement and is bottled with low levels of dosage.
I could go on and on and on, but I think you get the point. This is one of the great sparkling wine values on the planet. It is made with truly artisanal methods by a family that has centuries of experience doing so.
