2020 Finca Decero Cabernet Sauvignon 'Remolinos Vineyard'
Napa-like style and grace at half the price -- 92 points Wine Spectator.
The Decero story is a great one, and you can click here to read all about how they stared, who they are, and why they are recognized as one of Argentina's top estates. I'm just going to describe the wine and why I think you should buy it!
The Agrelo district of Mendoza is home to some of Argentina's top estates. The vineyards thrive at 3,000-3,500 feet in elevation, capturing all of that intense sunshine during the day, but cooling off at night. These conditions are optimal for producing Cabernet Sauvignons with ripe fruit balanced by zesty acids and fine tannins.
Brought up like and tasting like a much more expensive wine, the team at Decero harvest and sort by hand, and they age this Cabernet for 14 months in French barriques, 30% new. The finished wine is a huge success this vintage, one that was regarded as excellent throughout Mendoza.
One taste of this, and you'll taste the quality of the 2020 vintage. Elegant and classy, this pours a deep ruby, almost purple color, and it roars out of the glass with aromas of ripe cherry, plum, cedar, toasty oak, and just a whiff of savory herb and leather. Vibrant and juicy on the palate, more dark fruits, graphite, and spice box emerge.
Wine Spectator had similar things to say. "Rich and contoured with an elegant entry of mace, graphite and floral notes, this version offers a nice depth of berry and cassis flavors at the core. The minerally finish is marked by lively tannins and a late note of cordial. Drink now through 2035." - 92 points - Wine Spectator - Smart Buy
While I don't typically think of this as a lay-down, cellar-worthy Cab, it appears Wine Spectator does. My advice -- drink now with your favorite grilled meat(s), but lay a few bottles down for 7-8 years. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what you'll get...
