Catena is one of Argentina's pioneering producers, and their latest releases are better than ever. Case in point is their 2021 Vista Flores Malbec, a wine that recently snagged a 92-point-rating from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Nicolas Catena was one of the first to bottle Malbec as a mono-varietal, and today, the grape is Argentina's most important variety. All I can say is that when Martha and I did a private tasting and poured this one recently, we both preferred it over a much more expensive Malbec.

At less than $20 and as low as $12.99, this is going to fly. Get your order in fast....

Catena is one of the top producers of Argentina as well as one of the top producers in the world. Founded in 1902, the winery revolutionized wine quality in Argentina in the early-1980's. Nicolas Catena followed the path of top estates in California and Bordeaux, and today, he and his daughter Laura continue to put out some of the best, high-altitude Malbecs in the world.

The Vista Flores zone is just south of Mendoza, and the Catenas own a pristine patch of 30+ year-old Malbec vines here. Planted at 3,000+ feet up in the Andes, the hot days and cool nights resulted in a fresher and finer-grained style of Malbec that balances crisp acidity with bold and explosive flavors.

Aged for 12 months in French oak (new and old), the finished wine is easy-drinking, smooth, and delicious. It's the kind of red wine you want to have on-hand for all sorts of occasions and palates. With its classic notes of ripe red and dark berries, floral nuances, and nicely integrated oak, it's not the most complex red in the world, but it's incredibly satisfying.

Luis Gutierrez of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate summed it up nicely. "It has moderate 13.7% alcohol and very good acidity and freshness, reflecting a cool vintage, with varietal notes of violets, berries and herbs and a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins. Drink now - 2027."

Enjoy this easy-to-love Malbec all year with or without food. If food is involved think burgers, bbq, or other grilled classics!
