No discussion of Sancerre would be complete without mentioning Henri Bourgeois. One of the pioneering producers of estate-bottled Sancerre, the family continues to produce some of the benchmark wines of the region.
Their "true" Sancerre is fantastic, and we stock it. Click here to check that out. But their Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc offers the best quality to price ratio of any of the wines they make. With Sancerre like flavors and style, this is one of the great French Sauvignon Blanc values on the planet.

For 10 generations, the Bourgeois family have committed 100% of their beings into working with the unique vines and terroirs of Sancerre. They were some of the first to estate-bottle their wines, and you will struggle to find a better Sauvignon Blanc produced in the Loire Valley. Their Sancerre bottlings are all epic wines with classic flavors.
Their Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc is no slouch. Produced with grapes grown in Sancerre and the outlying areas, this is brought up just like Bourgeois' pricier Sancerres. That means it is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and vitality, and it is then aged for three months on its fine lees.
The finished wine is truly tantalizing. Remarkably aromatic and vivacious, this explodes out of the glass with aromas and flavors of ripe citrus fruits, apple, gooseberry, and passion fruit. There is also a subtle floral nuance to this lovely white wine. At less than $20, it's my pick for the top Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc value out there.
Drink this liberally on hot summer days and/or serve with fresh fish, vegetables, and salads packed with local produce. Cheers to happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
