Vinous Media founder and longtime and highly respected wine writer and critic Antonio Galloni had some very strong sentiments about the 2022 Valravn Cabernet Sauvignon:
"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) might very well be the single greatest Cabernet Sauvignon from California in its price range." -- Antonio Galloni
That's a bold statement, and I'm from the Show Me State (Missouri), so I asked my sales rep to "show me" the wine. He did just that, and we were both blown away by the quality and complexity found in this incredible Sonoma County Cabernet value.
2022 Valravn Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
Why should you buy it?
- Keep in mind the fact that Galloni tastes all of the best Napa and Sonoma Cabs each year. He is loved by the wine community and for good reason -- he has a great palate, and his reviews are second to none. When he makes a bold statement like he did about this one, I notice...
- There's serious pedigree contained within this bottle. Fruit comes from some of the top sub-AVA's in the county: 40% Knight's Valley, 20% Moon Mountain, 20% Alexander Valley, and 20% Chalk Hill. The combination of sites, elevations, soils, and climates work together to form a seamless composition.
- It wasn't just Galloni who loved it, Wine Enthusiast rated it 92 points, calling it "taut and well balanced" with "focused aromas and flavors of black cherries, raspberries, cinnamon, and toast on a firm texture of good acidity and muscular tannins."
- Despite the wine's humble price, this is pretty serious juice! There's a depth, complexity, and minerality that I usually only find in California Cabs that cost $50 or more.
If you want a highly attractive and interesting California Cab at a crazy-good price, no need to look any further. This would make for a wonderful "Tuesday night Cab," but it's got the stuffing to pair with grilled or braised meats.
