Cousins Flavio, Vanio, and Federico Tezza run this outstanding estate in Italy's Veneto region. With primely situated vineyards in the Valpantena zone, their Brolo delle Giare Valpolicella Superiore is made with grapes that are dried for 30-45 days.
The resulting wine "behaves" a lot like an Amarone, but it comes to you at a much lower price. Boasting wonderfully rich concentration and richness, this is just what the doctor ordered for these cold winter nights we're having!
2019 Brolo delle Giare Valpolicella Superiore -- Here's why you should buy it:
- It's an incredible value! With much of the same rich, opulent, and hedonistic of an Amarone, this is a ton of wine for the money. Amarones tend to start at $40 and go up to $100+....
- Can you say PLEASURE-BENT? Fantastic aromas and flavors of dark cherry liqueur, raisin, dark chocolate, vanilla, and spice can be found in this BIG and VOLUPTUOUS red!
- With 6 years of age on this one, it has had time to develop, integrate, and harmonize. I had a bottle of the 2018 (we featured it this time last year) recently with slow braised lamb shanks, and it was a magical wine-and-dine experience!
- With soft and ripe tannin, mild acidity, and deep and concentrated flavors, it's drinking like a dream now. However, the wine's rich extraction promises great drinking over the next 5-7 years.
I can't stress how great of a deal this is folks. If you love Amarone or have a fondness for world-class Italian reds, you should try this one.
